Mack Weldon 18 Hour Jersey Boxer Briefs

My Mack Weldon boxer briefs are now one of my favorite pairs of underwear. In my review of the Mack Weldon trunks, I talked about the many great features of Mack Weldon underwear, but the one problem I had was that the legs seemed too short and I had a lot of problems with them riding up. Not so with the boxer brief! Sound good? Buy them here.

Note: Because these are just like the trunks, but a different length, the reviews of each are mostly identical. The only changes are the "Ride up" section and the "Cost" section.

Fabric: Mack Weldon has a fantastic fabric - it’s about half cotton, half modal (with a bit of spandex thrown in there). It makes for a nice fabric that is softer than your average cotton underwear, but has more weight to it than a purely modal pair. As much as I love modal underwear (super comfortable!), sometimes I really want a pair of underwear with a bit more thickness/weight, and Mack Weldon really delivers here. These are new, but they seem like they will hold up really well over time. They also have some “mesh cool zones” at the top of the back and around the fly. A+

Waistband: I’m always looking for a better waistband. I like a relatively thick waistband, but often a thick waistband will fold over/roll which is no good. I’m not particularly big in the hips, but I am still insecure about any amount of fat on my hips, so it’s important that my waistband doesn’t cut in at my hips and create a “muffin top” appearance. Mack Weldon also delivers here - this is my favorite waistband of any underwear I’ve ever owned. I don’t have any issues with it cutting in/folding over, but it’s not too loose either. A+

Ride up: I complained in my review of the trunks about major problems with riding up, but the boxer briefs give me no trouble at all. These are on the shorter side for boxer briefs, so I was worried when I opened them up that I would have the same problem, but they turned out to be remarkably comfortable. A+

Pouch: These are a more classic fly-style boxer brief, so they lack the benefits of underwear with a contoured pouch. There isn’t as much space up front and they definitely flatten out my bulge. They don’t make things look bad, and it’s not actively uncomfortable. The pouch isn’t too small, per se, but I do wish it were bigger. I think it would be very comfortable for a guy with an average penis, but when you’re in the 5-6″ soft range, something bigger would be nice. I wouldn’t say it’s constricting though and it’s better than plenty of other underwear I’ve tried. B

Aesthetics: This category is mostly personal preference, but I love the appearance of these underwear - classic but not boring, great color selection. I also love the look of the simple waistband, with nothing printed on the outside (I often wear my pants a bit low and don’t always want my underwear to be a walking advertisement for some company). They do print the sizing/fabric information (the stuff that’s usually on the inside of the back of underwear) on the back of the leg, which is pretty unusual, but I kind of like it. It also means there’s no potentially uncomfortable printed text against your skin there. A+

Cost: These are pretty expensive - $24 for the solid colors, $28 for prints (which is slightly more than the cost of the trunks). My understanding is that they never have sales/coupons. There is a discount for buying a lot at once - 10% off $100+, 15% off $150+, 20% off $200+. They do have a great first-time try-on guarantee - If you are not satisfied with the underwear for any reason, they will give you a refund or exchange of your first pair of underwear even after you try them on (you get to keep the pair you tried). Due to the ride-up problem, I did this with my trunks and replaced them with a pair of boxer briefs. All in all, the price is competitive with similar underwear brands and it’s great quality, but I still think it’s a bit high (speaking as someone who normally buys things almost exclusively on sale/clearance). B-

Other Notes: They seem to ship really fast, which is nice, and they offer free return shipping. It’s not particularly important, but I like the sleek packaging the underwear comes in - it’s definitely a brand that has tried to make every aspect of the experience aesthetically pleasing (the website as well).

Buy them here: These are only available direct from the Mack Weldon website. If you follow this link, you should get $20 off a purchase of $75 or more.
